Biography

Rossella Rossi is born and raised on the shores of the Mediterranean, in Italy, on the west coast of Liguria – a land of horizons, salt, and rocks.

Education and Activities

After earning a Ph.D. in Genetic Science from the University of Pavie and spending 15 years engaged in research activities in Molecular Biology with CNRS, Rossella settled in Paris in September 2005. There, she continued her scientific work while concurrently dedicating herself to painting, a passion she had cherished for a long time. Rossella participated in many live model painting workshops at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris and regularly attended  the historical “ateliers” at the Grande Chaumière. In September 2008, she returned to Italy, specifically to Milan, and after taking painting and drawing courses at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, she decided to fully commit to painting.

Through various approaches, Rossella developed a work primarily centered on her quasi-existential connection to water and nature. Whether on canvas or linen, using oil or acrylic, her paintings draw on the symbolism of water to transport the viewer into the infinite world of universal sensations and suspended moments. With strength and gentleness, her play of color and brushstroke immerses us in a dreamlike, magnetic universe. Bodies transcend their mere material existence to enter the realm of free spirits beyond time.

Rossella has expressed her pictorial poetics through several themes:

WATER In the “Water” series, Rossella explores the aquatic element as a privileged medium, binding and diluting beings with nature. Through her palette ranging from green to emerald, turquoise to deep blue, she expresses the magic of returning to sources and merging oneself with the forces of the world.

WHITE  “ The color white acts on our soul like absolute silence. It is a silence full of possibilities, a void that is young, or more precisely, a void before the beginning, before birth.” In the “White” series, Rossella uses only the color white on natural linen, exploring the evocative power of white and its ability to blur the line between reality and imagination.

NATURE Rossella’s landscapes are a hypnotic dance of natural elements. Her kaleidoscopic universe of undulations and vibrations presents untouched lands crossed by a mysterious and esoteric breath that invites us on a dreamlike journey.

MYTHOLOGY Rossella explores mythological narratives through her hybrid characters, combining the divine, the human, the animal, and the vegetal. It is a glorious celebration, reconciling the living with the spiritual.
